Primary Years Program Exhibition

Calgary Meals on Wheels was honored to be chosen as one of the charities for the “Primary Years Program Exhibition” as part the curriculum at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS).

The idea, which started with one of their very own students, is that Grade 6 students learn about and explore a “global issue” through research with a selected charity. Partnering with The Calgary Foundation, the students presented to the Foundation and requested financial support for the charity of their choice.

The team representing Calgary Meals on Wheels wanted to explore issues that surround the elderly population and choose our organization since we delivery nutritious and affordable meals to many elderly citizens in Calgary. They felt that our service was very valuable to the Calgary community. The STS team came to our facility for a full tour with our Outreach Coordinator, Christine Conley, and learned our operations; from production to delivery.

Stephanie, our Fund Development Manager, attended the presentation at STS on March 18th, and sat proudly as she watched the students talk passionately about Calgary Meals on Wheels. Upon speaking with them she could see they were really excited about this experience. On March 24th Stephanie attended the final ceremony where the all the Grade 6 students thanked those involved and presented a donation to each charity they chose to represent. It was a heartfelt afternoon where these students really made a difference in their community.

Thank you to the school faculty, the students, and The Calgary Foundation and the students for bringing this wonderful idea to light. It is so great to see such young individuals become passionately engaged in their community!
