Client Stories: A Service For Anyone Facing Challenges In Life
After living in the same house for 51 years, Kathy decided it was time to downsize with her dog, Cubby, to a more manageable setting. Once she moved to her new duplex, she thought about volunteering to stay connected with the community. The pandemic made this difficult as she did not have the computer needed to participate. In conversations with the organization, she wished to volunteer with, the staff member suggested Calgary Meals on Wheels to her.
“I had no idea that Calgary Meals on Wheels was available to the average Joe”
Being on her own she did not like the idea of having to cook every night and mentioned it was overwhelming at times.
“I really have no energy to make meals as it is hard to cook for one person.”
By using Calgary Meals on Wheels Kathy is eating much healthier and maintaining her health by ordering meals for five days out of a week. With her chronic bad back and other health issues, having the volunteers deliver her meals saves her time and the need to leave the house more often than needed.
“The food is so good; the vegetables are made perfectly. Bless the hearts of the volunteers’ delivering meals when it is -40 out. They are so polite.”
