Volunteer Interview: Supporting Our Community for More Than a Decade

572 routes, that’s how many trips in total Magda has made while helping Calgary Meals on Wheels deliver meals to clients as a volunteer driver. Every Friday for the past 11 years, Magda has been driving out to our distribution depots to pick up meals and delivering them to our clients in the community.

Magda first started volunteering while she was still working as a full-time registered nurse. With a flexible schedule and having some free time during the day on Fridays, Magda wanted to find a way to spend some of her time giving back to the community.

“Knowing I am delivering healthy and nutritious meals to people who may not have access to it them a great feeling”

What started as a small gesture to help the community turned into a weekly tradition. When Magda first started volunteering, she didn’t think that she would be volunteering for Calgary Meals on Wheels for so long. However, having seen all her efforts helping people in the community, she was motivated to keep going.

Today, Magda has retired from her work as a registered nurse and is spending most of her free time with her family while taking up new hobbies such as playing the saxophone. However, every Friday she still makes time to volunteer to make sure that clients have healthy meals delivered to them.
