Summer Time!
Summer is officially here and it has already been a hot one! Here at Calgary Meals on Wheels we want to ensure you continue to be safe, healthy, and happy throughout the summer months. As temperatures continue to rise we have developed a top ten list of essential summer safety tips to protect you from the summer heat: Stay Hydrated!
Drink plenty of cool liquids, especially water, and avoid drinking caffeine and alcohol.
Drink before you get thirsty to best keep hydrated.
Keep a glass of water by your sink or carry a re-fillable water bottle.
Try flavouring water with natural fruit juices and mint.
Eat lots of fruit and vegetable, if you eat less you may need to drink more water.
Other Heat Safety Tips
Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-coloured clothing.
Seek shade during mid-day hours (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.).
Wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, and both UVA and UVB protection.
Take cool showers or baths to cool down.
Seek medical care immediately if you, or anyone you know, experiences symptoms of heat-related illnesses such as muscle cramps, headaches, nausea or vomiting.
