YYC Pizza Week 2018 – The Torch Has Been Passed!

As of April 2018, Calgary Meals on Wheels accepted the offer to become the official owner of YYC Pizza Week – a fun foodie event which sees local restaurants battle for YYC’s best pizza.

This event began in 2014 when Wanda Baker founded YYC Pizza Week. During its inaugural year, Calgary Meals on Wheels was selected as the benefitting charity and the event raised nearly $10,000 to help support the nutritional needs of vulnerable Calgarians. Since then, the event has raised approximately $35,000 for charities in Calgary – primarily Calgary Meals on Wheels.

Now, coming into the fifth year, Mrs. Baker decided it is time to let go of the reins, giving the established foodie event to Calgary Meals on Wheels. “Although it was a hard decision to step back, it’s time, and who better to continue the event than Calgary Meals on Wheels. They have been involved since the beginning and it’s a great cause,” Mrs. Baker said.

It was an easy decision for Calgary Meals on Wheels to say yes and continue with YYC Pizza Week. “There was no question on this, we are familiar with the format and the alignment is great for our organization. Wanda and her team have built a very successful community event and we thank them for trusting us to continue their work.” – Stephanie Ralph, Fund Development Manager.

The 2018 dates have already been set for September 21 to 30 and internal planning is underway. Currently, we are seeking committee members to assist with YYC Pizza Week media relations and sub-events.
