Working together with Alpha House

Alpha House is a non-profit charitable agency that provides safe and caring environments for individuals whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies. Established in 1981, as a safe place for men and women struggling with health issues such as addictions, mental health, and physical health; Alpha House is an essential support in our city.

Since May 2015 Calgary Meals on Wheels has partnered with the United Way of Calgary & Area to provide Alpha House with quality, nutritional meals to more than 60 of their residents, 6 days per week. With consistent nutritional support the residents have shown signs of improvements in; eating habits, health, overall well-being, and mood. The level of stress among the staff has decreased as they no longer have to prepare meals and determine a meal plan, leaving them with more time to provide additional one-on-one time with the residents.

“Our partnership with Meals on Wheels has been significant in ensuring the nutritional needs of our clients. As a result, their overall health and quality of care are greatly improved.” - Kathy Christiansen, Executive Director – Alpha House

Our Group Meal Program is a great fit for our partnership with Alpha House. This program is designed to provide a nutritional and very affordable option to any community groups in Calgary and area. This includes; schools, non-profit organizations, service groups and more.

“Calgary Meals on Wheels has grown so much since its start in 1965. Our Group Meal Program is just one example of how we have evolved to serve many different populations throughout our city.”  - Janice Curtis, Executive Director – Calgary Meals on Wheels
