Delivering Meals for 10 Years and More!
“I enjoy the job so much”
10 years. That is how long George has been driving for Calgary Meals on Wheels as of May. 23 2022. After a varied career working in Winnipeg, Red Deer and internationally in the oil industry, George retired to Victoria at age 50. However, in the early 2000s, he decided to get back to work and moved to Calgary to be closer to his grandkids. George is now 75 years old, and he has remained with us for so long because he enjoys the job so much.
His favourite part of the job is spending time with coworkers and volunteers.
“It is always enjoyable to discuss sports and current events with all the people I work with.”
When asked if his job has changed much in the last 10 years, George says it has, dramatically so. “The new facility is so much more functional than the old one. Our client base has changed a lot with schools, Alpha House, etc, while still maintaining our home delivery base.”
He has no plans to retire any time soon and says that working only four hours per day is “a pretty good gig”. “What would I do by myself all day?” he adds.
When asked about the food made at CMOW George says he enjoys just about everything we make, but the Pork Bourbon is his favourite.
