A warm and delicious dessert...

With less than a week until Christmas, many of us are overwhelmed by the endless to-do lists, gifts to buy, and foods to make. Of course, there is also the baking at this time of year, with tasty morsels around every corner at the grocery store. By this time of the season, your wallet may be emptier than you’d hoped. What are you to do when you need a dessert and you are strapped for time and cash? We’d like to offer a dessert recipe for your next Christmas event that is easier on the wallet, simple to make, and very satisfying. With minimal prep and ingredients, try this warm and delicious dessert that also gives you 5 grams of fibre per serving!

Ingredients:

Peeled and sliced pears (about 3 medium pears) - 2 1/2 cups (625 mL)

Cinnamon - 1/8 tsp (0.5 mL)

 

Topping:             

Old fashioned rolled oats - 1/2 cups (125 mL)

Cinnamon - 1/8 tsp (0.5 mL)

Maple syrup - 1 Tbsp (15 mL) 

 

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º F (180º C).

In a medium sized baking dish* add the pears and the cinnamon. In a bowl combine the oats cinnamon and maple syrup. Scatter over the pears. Bake for 30 minutes. Serve hot or cold.

 

*This recipe can also be made in 4 individual ramekins.
