Gifts of Warmth & Wellness: Small Actions Leaves Big Impacts

A year ago, Linda was worried about how she would provide for herself after she returned home from being hospitalized for a month. Due to her recovery, Linda had a hard time walking long distances which made it difficult for her to leave her home for groceries or participate in social activities.

Having moved to Calgary just two years ago, along with the isolating environment created from the pandemic, Linda did not have many social outlets during her recovery process. This has left her quite isolated most days as she recovers from her illness. However, having Calgary Meals on Wheels volunteers there to chat with her during meal deliveries helped make her day better.

“The volunteers are pleasant to talk to. When you are in pain all the time, it’s nice to hear some kind words.”

By relying on Calgary Meals on Wheels, Linda was freed from her daily concerns of meals while uplifting her mental wellbeing through daily interactions.

Whether it’s a busy schedule or ageing, Linda believes that anyone who feels isolated or alone can benefit from the social interactions and the time savings of being on the Calgary Meals on Wheels program. Although Linda is currently still recovering from her hospitalization, she feels much less alone knowing there will be a friendly knock on the door each day.

Give today, and help us support people like Linda. We all experience periods of struggle in our lives, but let’s make sure no one has to do it on an empty stomach.
