Calgary Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit organization that delivers approximately 2,300 meals each day, more than 463,000 meals a year to Calgarians in need. While our well-known Home Meal Delivery Program serves our principal clients; we have five programs which serve individuals, families, school children and community groups.  The mission at Calgary Meals on Wheels is to promote health and independence by providing quality, nutritious and affordable meals to people in need of our services.

We are currently hiring for the new role of Human Resource Assistant to work with our Finance & Human Resource Manager.  The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of human resources from recruiting and onboarding to benefits and RPP administration to payroll and separation paperwork.  Our HR Assistant role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain employee records (soft and hard copies)
  • Update HR databases (e.g. new hires, separations, vacation and sick leaves)
  • Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant data
  • Prepare paperwork for HR policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the hiring manager to post job ads on careers pages and process incoming resumes
  • Provide orientations for new employees by sharing onboarding packages and explaining company policies
  • Assists with HR projects and organizational initiatives as required
  • Assist with all WCB & LTD claims
  • Management of employee benefits program

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma/Certificate in Human Resources or Administration, with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to develop, compose, and edit letters, reports and contracts
  • Exceptional time management skills along with the ability to prioritize work effectively in keeping with deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Ability and eagerness to adapt and grow with change and to accept new challenges and assignments
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills including being able to identify issues and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Quick learner with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Clean police check with vulnerable sector search
  • Driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract preferred

Production Admin Assistant

We are currently hiring for the new role of Production Admin. Assistant to work within our fast-paced Production team and report to the Production Manager. The successful candidate would be an energetic, self motivated, results oriented individual who can prioritize tasks, take direction well and adaptable to assisting in other areas as needed.
The Production Admin. Assistant is responsible for the coordination of all school schedules on an ongoing basis, coordinating supply needs for each of the school programs, and maintaining accurate records for monthly invoicing and statistical information. The successful candidate with be the liaison between the production team and the finance team ensuring all required data is relayed in a timely and accurate manner.
The Production Admin. Assistant must possess a great attitude, be punctual, a real team player and have the ability to represent the organization in a professional manner at all times.

Requirements:
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Excellent customer service skills with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a customer/client service focused role
• Ability to communicate effectively with broad audiences both internally and externally to meet the needs of multiple clients
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically Microsoft Excel is a must
• 1 – 3 years’ experience within an administrative role
• Preference will be given to those with previous food service experience
• Clean police record

General Kitchen Aide

We are currently hiring for the role of General Kitchen Aide to work within our fast paced Production team and report to the Production Manager.  The successful candidate would be an energetic, self motived, results oriented individual who can prioritize tasks, take direction well and adaptable to assisting in other areas as needed.

The main functions of the General Kitchen Aide are to work with our meal assembly team, assisting in the preparation, portioning and packaging of client menu items while following established safe food handling procedures. The ability to work on a fast paced production line is essential.

The successful candidate must possess a great attitude, be punctual, a real team player and comfortable working in a cold environment.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Proficient in spoken English
  • Previous Food Service Aide experience an asset
  • Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time
  • Preference will be given to those who have previous Food Safety Training
  • Knowledge of WHMIS standards
  • Clean police record

Cook’s Assistant

We are currently hiring for the exciting role of Cook’s Assistant to work under the general direction from the Chef and report to the Production Manager.  The successful candidate would be an energetic, self-motived, results oriented individual who can work in an extremely fast paced environment.

The Cook’s Assistant is mainly responsible for assembling recipes to produce client menu items as required by the weekly menu including items for catered functions. The successful candidate will take direction from the Chef, assist in the preparation of client menu items according to established procedures.  He/She will be responsible for cleanup of main production equipment and areas, ensure proper storage of leftover items and have the ability to use standardized recipes.

 Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Cook or equivalent
  • Experience with industrial size equipment an asset
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with food production
  • Must understand weights and measures (mass & volume)
  • Possess good mathematical skills and ability to use a scale accurately
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English
  • Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time
  • Preference will be given to those who have previous Food Safety Training
  • Knowledge of WHMIS standards
  • Clean police record
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
